A database of the world's most important habitats in terms of biodiversity. Maintained by Conservation International.
Encyclopedia of Life (EOL)
A website still in its planning phase, but with initial funding now in place. The admirable vision of EOL is to create a website with species pages for all living organisms on Earth. First set of authenticated species pages are expected to be available by the middle of 2008. Sample pages and information on the update progress are available at www.eol.org.
Global Amphibian Assessment
The first-ever comprehensive status assessment of the world’s 5,918 known amphibian species with all species assessed against the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. More than 500 scientists from 60 countries contributed to the three-year study.

Societas Europaea Herpetologica (SEH)
A Pan-European network of herpetological societies and institutions. Publishes the quarterly journal Amphibia-Reptilia. Some of SEH's publications can be downloaded for free as well as distribution maps of European reptiles and amphibians.

The TIGR Reptile Database (previously EMBL)
Currently the best, comprehensive survey of the world's reptile species and their systematics. Continuously updated by volunteers, including members of DGHT, the well-known, German herpetological society.
Species 2000: Catalogue of Life
A network of databases containing information on various groups of animals and other living organisms.
