Other names:  European Pond Terrapin.
Size:  Usually up to 20 cm, but occasionally to 30 cm.
Distribution:  Central and Southern Europe, eastwards to the Aral Sea and southwards to northern Iran, northern Middle East, Northwest Africa. Previously occurred in Denmark, but recent sightings may have been based on introduced specimens.
